Good morning, everyone and Merry Christmas to all! Some interesting information for the young’uns amongst us who may not already know this: Christmas translates to different phrases globally, most commonly meaning “Christ’s Mass,” with “Merry Christmas” varying by language (e.g., Joyeux Noël in French, Feliz Navidad in Spanish, Frohe Weihnachten in German). The English word itself comes from Old English Cristes mæsse, combining “Christ” (from Greek Khristos) and “mass” (Latin missa), evolving from “Christenmasse”.
Fittingly, the Met Office is forecasting a bright and sunny day, with blue skies throughout! Temperatures will be a rather cold 1 to 4 degrees C, accompanied by moderate ENE winds.
The few island travel services that are operating today all appear to be running to schedule, as of 07.30 this morning, and there are no reported problems with either our roads or traffic.
