A WET AND WINDY SUNDAY – 08/12/2024

Good morning, everyone. As the storm begins to move away from the UK today, the Met Office is warning of continual wet and very windy conditions throughout the day, with a Yellow Warning for high winds in place until 18.00 this evening. Temperatures will fluctuate between 7 and 8 degrees C. NNW winds (becoming N) are expected to gust up to 50mph.

From the Hover Travel website:
“Services are cancelled due to adverse weather. the next update will be 9.45 tickets will be accepted on the WightLink Car Ferry . –Please see our Disruption Contingency Plan web page.”

The following WightLink Fast Cat sailings have been cancelled:
Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde – 08:15 – cancelled

Ryde to Portsmouth Harbour – 07.45 and 08.45 – cancelled

The 08.00 WightLink Portsmouth to Fishbourne vehicle ferry sailing has been cancelled.

Red Funnel’s vehicle ferries “may” remain suspended this morning.
The 07.00, 09.00 and 10.30 crossings from East Cowes, and the 07.30, 09.00 and 10.30am crossings from Southampton are all listed as “due to ongoing adverse weather conditions from Storm Darragh, our vehicle ferry service may remain suspended until 1000hrs 08/12.”

Bizarrely, RF are not updating those listings, even minutes before the sailing, so at this point it’s impossible to tell whether they’re running or not..

The Floating Bridge was suspended yesterday evening due to the storm weather. From the stuttering webcam images it appears to be running again..

The remaining island travel services appear to be running to schedule, as of 07.OO this morning, and there are no reported problems with either our roads or traffic. The high winds, however, are likely to cause problems with downed trees, branches and debris, so it would be best only to travel if absolutely necessary.

Friendly Cabs is closed today and will re-open on Monday at 06.00. We wish you all a safe and pleasant Sunday! 01983 506975
