Good morning, everyone. It’s time to baton down the hatches as the Met Office warns of heavy rain and strong winds throughout the day. Temperatures will fluctuate between 5 and 9 degrees C, accompanied by very high SSW winds with gusts of up to 70mph.
The 09.00 Red Funnel vehicle ferry from East Cowes to Southampton has been “cancelled due to essential maintenance required on Red Osprey’s aft engine.”
From the Hover Travel website:
“Services are cancelled due to adverse weather. The next update will be at 0945.”
Both Red Funnel and WightLink warn of expected disruption to their services throughout the day.
Another tree has come down at the entrance to Brannon Way in Wootton, blocking part of the junction.
The general advice at this point is: if you don’t absolutely need to travel, don’t.
All other island travel services appear to be running to schedule, as of 08.00 this morning but this is expected to change.
